Tip 1 If you haven’t already had your dental cleaning and exam, it’s not too late! We urge you to maximize your dental insurance benefits while giving your teeth the TLC they need to stay cavity-free and gingivitis-free. Plus, the added boost of cleaner, fresher breath after getting rid of dental plaque and tartar will come in handy during all the social gatherings you may attend.

Tip 2 The busyness this time of year can result in cutting corners to keep up. But your smile will thank you if you keep up with your brushing and flossing habits. The American Dental Association advises brushing your teeth every day, twice a day, for two minutes. Using a fluoride toothpaste can add some extra protection to tooth enamel.

Tip 3 Did you know that your saliva bathes your teeth and gums in a healthy environment as well as flushes away oral debris Healthy levels of saliva are maintained by staying hydrated. So instead of using sugary drinks to keep your energy up this busy season, drink plenty of water. This will help your breath stay fresher as well.

Tip 4 We are all surrounded by sugary temptation this time of year, so we sympathize. But nibbling on sugary treats can be devastating to your teeth. Limit treats as much as possible, or eat them with meals. Otherwise, be sure to snack on healthier options like apples and carrots instead.

Tip 5 Winter sports are especially enjoyable, but even if you are engaging in activities that don’t involve snow, please protect your smile with a sports guard if you are vulnerable to impact or injury. Protective gear is as important for your mouth as it is for your body.
