Implant Dentistry

If you are in need of a dental implant, you will be pleased to know that implant options and procedures have come a long way and the outcome now looks very natural. Dental implants are a great way to fill in the space and gap that is left when a tooth or teeth have been removed for any reason. No matter whether your tooth has been knocked out or pulled due to excessive decay; a dental implant can have your smile looking full and great again.

If you have an area of the mouth that is missing more than one tooth, a crown or bridge simply will not work and a dental implant is the way to go. The dental implant procedure is a longer process, requiring several visits to the dentist to have all the steps completed; but the outcome is amazing!

Dental Exam and Preparation

The first step is to determine whether there is a need for a dental implant and what the plan of action will be. This day will also include x-rays and molds or impressions so that when the implant is manufactured, it will fit in the space that is provided.

Attachment of Dental Implant to Jaw Bone

The next step is to have the implant attached to the bone in the jaw which may also include the placement of the post(s). After the placement of the artificial root, time is needed to allow the gums and bone to heal and integrate with the new implant.

Attachment of Porcelain Teeth

The last step is done in a series of appointments where the porcelain tooth or teeth are attached to the post that extend through the gums. The fit may need to be adjusted several times to ensure it is right. After the implant is completed, you will need time to allow the teeth and gums to heal.

Be sure that during this time you are efficient in oral hygiene and cleanliness to prevent bacteria that could harm the gums and the newly placed implant. Good oral hygiene will also extend the life of the dental implant as well. Contact Michael G. Dab, DDS for more information!
